The George has recently undergone an extensive makeover and looks absolutely beautifully however I did feel a bit let down by our visit yesterday. Myself and some colleagues came for afternoon. It was pre-booked and paid a £10 deposit per person although nowhere on the website, including the menus tells you price of the afternoon tea. On arrival we were shown to our table but not once were we asked if it was with or without prosecco. Drinks were ordered and 1 of our table was waiting for her drink for at least 5 minutes before asking it for it to be brought over. We did wait at least 25 mins for our afternoon tea to arrive and to be honest, I was a bit disappointed by it. The top tier of cake selection looked good, they were very miniature cakes but were lovely. The scone was obviously shop bought from a multipack like Tesco value and the only savoury part was the sandwiched which consisted of 4 finger sandwiches each which weren’t made with particularly good quality bread and was probably less than a whole sandwich each. Granted it only turned out to be £15 (without prosecco) but we all agreed we would have expected something else savoury and a homemade or much better quality scone. The place is really lovely itsel and the manager was great and talked to us about its history but the quality of food was certainly lacking. I can’t comment on the main menu.
