"Very good - with a couple on niggles"

I booked a one night stay in a Superior room on a Dinner Bed and Breakfast arrangement.
First niggle - Arrived at the hotel at 2pm, and I did know the advertised check-in time was 3pm, but sometimes rooms are ready and you are able to check-in early, but here I was abruptly told that all rooms would be ready at 3pm and not earlier.
No problem, had a drink in the bar. Very efficient and friendly bar staff. Shortly after 3pm went to check in and shown to the room. Very clean, well presented and cared for accommodation and bathroom, so well pleased here.
Dinner in the restaurant in the evening, food well presented, hot and enjoyable served again by a couple of well meaning, pleasant and conversational staff members.
Excellent nights sleep, no road noise or noise from adjoining rooms.
Breakfast top class. Hot and plentiful breakfast with lots of choice and happy and polite staff.
NIggle No 2. When our waiter presented us with the Dinner menus, he told us that the Chef had some Daily specials. The Smoked Haddock with mashed potato option appealed to my wife and so she ordered it. Presented with the bill at reception on checkout, I noticed that this option had been charged at £27.50, and considering most of the other main course entrees were around £19, I thought this was a bit steep. (The prices weren't mentioned by the waiter). So, I politely mentioned this to the receptionist, who, without much interest or concern, told me that the fish specials were always that price. Considering our Dinner allowance was £36, this didn't leave much left for a starter and dessert!
Her lack of interest marred an otherwise well executed wedding anniversary.
