"Really disappointing visit"

Booked for afternoon tea for birthday/mothers day. No one greeted us eventually a member of staff asked what we wanted I said we had booked afternoon tea for 12oclock, she went away and didn't return a few minutes later another staff member approached asked us what we wanted I said we had booked afternoon tea she asked us to follow her she checked the computer and said we hadn't booked I produced my email confirmation she checked again and found us. The table was not ready yet the place was nearly empty ...said waitress collected cutlery and plates on the way to our table...not a good start felt very unwelcome. Surroundings nice. Coffee awful strong and bitter...cakes soggy but scones nice, sandwiches OK.
No one checked we were OK during our meal. I think this afternoon tea was very over priced and not quality both in service and content. Sadly not a special experience and a shame as I live locally and won't be able to recommend to friends.
