The Crown Hotel, Boroughbridge

"Service issues:"

We have stayed at the Crown on many occasions as our son and his family live in the village.
This time we brought two friends and were very embarrassed at the quality of service during our stay:
We had a meal in the main restaurant on Friday evening and had to wait ages for drinks. We understood that there were many wedding guests dining that evening but we were concerned that the staff were sparse and did not appear organised. When the meals eventually arrived they were beautifully cooked.
The next morning we arrived for breakfast at the arranged time. There were no plates or bowls on the buffet table. The fruit salad bowl was nearly empty and the table was very messy. The toaster was challenging as not all the slots were operative.
When approaching the member of staff in charge we were met with hostility, excuses and frustration. Obviously, there were underlying issues that we were not aware of but it was not professional.
Yesterday lunchtime we arrived with our family for lunch. There were no forks to be seen, so when the food arrived we asked for some and were told by the same member of staff that she was in the process of polishing them! So, since the food had arrived my husband went to the main dining room and located some cutlery. He told the same member of staff that he had found some only to be told he shouldn't have taken them because they were expecting pre- booked customers later!?
The staff were sullen and it was apparent they did not want to be there or us!
On our many previous visits the staff were always lovely.
The TV screen did not work in our bedroom so we did report it but it wasn't repaired. My husband went online to see if he could repair it and attempted a factory reset to no avail.
The rooms have always been immaculate but in our room and our friends, the underneath of the toilet seats were dirty.
We were very, very disappointed with this visit.
