"Average"

We arrived on Thursday 2nd May for 4 days, the postcode takes you to the front of the hotel where there isn’t anywhere to park, had to visit reception where staff gave us another postcode for the very small car park at rear of the hotel. Had to wait until booking in time as no one on reception. Room very nice, we had a suite and it was presented very nicely, on first floor and if not able to climb stairs wouldn’t have been able to stay as no lift. No one to help with bags If unable to carry them ourselves. Booked into restaurant for dinner as long journey from home to hotel, not a lot of choice and very expensive, no idea that service charge applied as no information anywhere to state this was going to happen, not a lot of staff and dinner was average, steak over cooked and chips burnt, salad warm and wilted due to being placed in a very hot dish, can’t remember what my partner had as not very interesting. Breakfast is self service and you cook your own toast, full English, again overcooked and sausages tasteless, again no staff, four mornings and on 3rd day we had to sit in another part of the hotel as they couldn’t cope with the demand from all of the guests, we had to collect our food from the main room and walk outside to get to the other room, tea, coffee, food, hot or cold, we walked past cleaners who where spraying and cleaning areas near both places to eat, the cleaners would walk through the restaurant with their dirty water and mop's, rubbish and cleaning products, no health and safety or hygiene rules within the hotel, quite disgusting and disappointing. Most staff were very friendly but a couple were rude and ignored guests, on the last night we had booked into the restaurant prior to our booking and we thought we would give it another chance, we were very disappointed as we waited a good 5 minutes before anyone came into the bar where we were waiting to book in and a male staff member walked past us, not even acknowledging us or advising us that someone would be coming soon and went and served another customer who arrived after us and then completely ignored us again and served another person who arrived even later, my partner went to ask him if he was ignoring us when a young lady appeared and when we spoke to her see was embarrassed and couldn’t apologise enough, dinner was better this time and we would recommend the Sunday roast, when we went to pay it took for ever and in the end we charged it to our room which took forevermore and in the end we went back to our room without seeing anyone. I can honestly say that we won’t be recommending this hotel to our friends or family and believe that they should retrain the staff to know what customer service is and to revisit health and safety and food hygiene.
