The George Hotel, Dorchester

"Appalling."

Having chosen to take the special offer and booked a table for a celebratory lunch on my birthday we arrived to find the 'All day' menu had been reduced to what I can only describe as being a very basic 'pub lunch' menu. No starters, no steaks, no chef dishes. We had to settle for fish and chips. The service was equally dismal. I won't dwell on this but to make anything happen I had to go and find someone to do anything. When you are paying £47 for a bottle of wine (Rose) I thought this should be brought to our table without me then having to go and ask where it is.
As a last straw, having asked for the dessert menu we waited for 15 minutes for anyone to take an order, so I went looking for a staff member and said we are not happy,
We ask for the 'discretionary' service charge to be removed from our bill, which they did by not charging us for the two glasses of fizz (that arrived after the fish and chips along with the rose).
Having said all this, the fish and chips were extremely well presented and very enjoyable.
I My wife and I lived right across the road for 36 years before we moved elsewhere in the village. This was an unpleasant and unexpected experience. I look forward to hearing what the management have to say.
