The George Hotel, Dorchester

"Disappointing supper at The George!"

We had stayed at The George previously and had an amazing time and delicious food so we thought on this visit we would have supper too. In the booking I mentioned my garlic allergy which I then mentioned to the waitress. I also pointed out that I am intolerant to raw onion and can't have any at all. She wrote this down to inform the chef. When our meals came my husband's looked delicious and had panfried seabass. I went for the goats cheese salad which upon eating I discovered had loads of raw onion included! I was in a dilemma as if I sent it back my husband would have to eat on his own and then myself on my own. We had already waited about 40 mins for it too. I didn't want to cause a scene so spent about 10 minutes trying to fish out all the onion which took my enjoyment away from the meal. At the end the waitress asked how it was and I explained what happened. She said the chef must have made a mistake and disappeared. She didn't apologise. When we got the bill we mentioned it again and she then said it was her mistake as she had forgotten to tell the chef about the onion but he knew about the garlic allergy!!! She was busy and we heard her telling another customer she is a student and only has a week to go at the restaurant. She was friendly but clearly not trained. I think what topped it was that the bill receipt said 'no allergy' on it which we have kept. This experience has certainly affected our opinion of your staff.
We did have breakfast this morning and the food was delicious although my husband didn't receive what he ordered. Again we didn't want to make a fuss as the waiter was charming but no adjustments were made on our bills for these issues!
