"Pleasant, characterful surroundings and a warm welcome but food slightly not quite as advertised and slightly disappointing. "

Took my grandchildren for afternoon tea as an end of term treat. Had a lovely table reserved and we had a warm and friendly welcome. There appeared to be only one member of staff on duty who nonetheless did a very good job of serving food and drinks cheerfully and efficiently. However the food served was not quite as advertised. My grandchildren were offered squash or a milkshake; not both as detailed in the advertisement. There were no vegetable sticks with dips either. Instead there were scones with jam but instead of clotted cream, these were served with a sort of synthetic tasting whippy cream. These were left uneaten. No explanation was given for the change in menu. I decided not to complain about this because I didn't want to spoil the experience for the children who were very excited about their treat. (They loved pouring their drinks from the teapot.) I also felt it would be difficult for the sole member of staff to rectify the situation as she already had her hands full serving others. The rest of the tea - sandwiches and little cakes - were really good so the children did have enough to eat and weren't hungry.
