"Could have been so much better."

We went on a Friday - Sunday break. Arrival and check in was fine. Our room was fine too although very hot and the radiator was supposedly off!
We had booked all of our meal times and arrived on Friday evening at the allotted time. The service was a little slow but ok. My main course was tepid but I didn't see anyone to complain to.
A decent nights sleep. Great shower and bathroom. Saturday breakfast was booked for 09.45 however on arrival we were told "not sure is we have a table". The restaurant was not full but the empty tables had been used but not cleared so we were finally given a table which had been cleared but not set up fully. We lacked side plates, butter knives and napkins. After waiting for a while and nobody came, I went to find a waitress and asked for the missing items. She looked in a cupboard and said "we are out of side plates" and handed me two saucers - which I told her to keep. No cutlery or butter either apparently. I then collected juice and looked for the promised pastries but were told "sorry, all gone".
Unhappily we both ordered the cooked breakfast although it arrived without black pudding. When I mentioned it to the waitress, she said "do you want black pudding? (Yes that's why I asked for it) so she promptly bought some over on a side plate!
The rest of the meal was ok.
Saturday evening meal was fine and Jess the restaurant manager was on duty. I recounted our tale and she kindly discounted our evening meal.
Sunday morning. Pastries were available and all was good.
We had booked Sunday lunch but had checked out at 11am. Lunch was served at 1.30pm. Three or four mouthful's of the roast chicken meal, I discovered a long hair baked into my carrot. It certainly wasn't mine as it was well attached to carrot. I asked the waitress to take it away which she did but offered no comment at all, just collected the plate. A couple of minutes later and Jess appeared with an apology and the offer of "something else" which I declined as it had made me feel sick. We got the bill (which Jess discounted again) and we left. Never to return.
Such a shame as it is a nice place.
