"Non-existent vegetarian afternoon tea, as requested and confirmed twice, in person"

The vegetarian afternoon tea, requested three weeks in advance and confirmed twice, consisted of three sandwich fingers - ham and tomato, smoked salmon and egg mayo (plus cakes). On arrival, I mentioned to the waitress that a vegetarian meal had been requested and confirmed. I was hosting a special birthday celebration for an elderly neighbour and didn’t want to cause embarrassment, but did mention that this was not the vegetarian tea I had expected. The waitress explained there were two sets of the same sandwiches on the presentation plate (i.e. two egg mayos?) I quietly mentioned to the waitress later that the sandwich selection was unacceptable and was told that my comments would be mentioned to the chef and higher management
