The Moorland Country Hotel & Inn, Haytor

"Not a great experience"

I was staying in the vicinity and chose the Moorland for an evening meal. There weren't many booking slots available and on arrival the place was very quiet with not many table occupied. We were shown to a sticky table and after a wait I had to go and ask for a menu. Eventually again our drinks orders were taken by someone in charge who was a bit taken aback that we ordered our food at the same time. They then returned to say that the larger bottle of water wasn't available so we had to opt for two more expensive smaller ones. After about half an hour, I enquired where our food was, given it was quiet and was told there was a coach party in (separate restaurant).. Our food arrived fairly soon after. Now, why weren't we informed that there would be a wait? We were on a time frame as had walked there and didn't want to walk back in the dark. In addition, there was a surcharge - I would have liked to tip the young waitress only, not the Hotel.
