"Very disappointing meal"

The whole evening was a disappointment but particularly the food. We arrived and hovered but no one came to greet us. In the end the barman told one of the waiters who took us to our table. He them proceeded to tell us the specials scribbled on his pad, in a very quick and perfunctory way that made it difficult to understand. Our scallop starters were OK but very overpriced. My partners main of calves liver was again OK but too thick and overcooked. My main was so disgusting that I could not eat it- described as duck breast on a white bean stew with crispy cavala nero , it turned out to be a very unappetising plain duck breast with none of the crispy skin you normally get, sitting on a very salty thick dark beef gravy with a few butter beans floating in it and soggy greens. The stew was so unpleasant that I could not eat it. The waitress did remove it and offered me another main and I chose the stone bass which was at least edible although nothing special. The bill was nearly £100 for these meals plus two glasses of house white wine, which I consider exorbitant for such poor food.
I would certainly not return nor advise anyone else to book a meal at The Pheasant.
