"A lovely hotel and food but poor service"

Lack of/poor staff made meal times an ordeal and a delight. A delight as the food was lovely, but an ordeal because it took ages to confirm the order had been placed and for it to arrive. Breakfasts (except the last day lasted forever. I had to intervene one morning as the staff were starting to clear up before two guests had received their food!
On the first morning my wife was told they didn't have decaff coffee, but we got some on the Saturday with no trouble! Apart from two young members of staff there was no interaction or apparent customer care (Saturday morning excepted).
We were not informed about how to exit the adjoining carpark without paying until one (young lady) member of staff overheard us talking and explained the system.
I had booked and was allocated a superior room, which was clean, light and adequate, but failed to see why or how it was graded as " superior" as it had no great space and no extra furniture or facilities.
A lovely town and lovely building with plenty to offer, but frequently failing to deliver.
