"Not the best afternoon tea!"

The staff gave us a warm welcome and took us to a coffee table in front of a log fire which was nice but not the best position for afternoon tea as it meant resting a plate on our knees and having to reach over considerably to take tea etc. The sandwiches seemed to be made with three day old bread or had been made in advance and not covered as were very dry (and still had the crusts on at the ends!). The. Mini doughnuts were also very dry. The best item was the fruit scone. I know you can’t help the weather but the sun was shin8ng into the room and blinding some of us at times - there were no blinds, shutters or curtains to bring some shade.
When paying the bill it was t pointed out to us that 10% service charge had been added! One of the party added a generous tip not realising this till after we left! Whoever made the sandwiches didn’t deserve a tip. I’m sorry to say I would t recommend the afternoon tea to friends.
