The Talbot Country House Hotel, Malton

"Poor service, worse food."

Starter: 2 regular scallops for £15 a plate, nice samphire but inedible carbonised black pudding and bacon crumbs.

Mains were served missing items on the menu (potatoes) and arrived after the rest had been eaten, as did the glass of wine I’d asked to be served with the main. Potatoes were swimming in grease and taken back. Each main nearly £30.

Manager apologised and cut bill but it was a poor experience and we won’t risk coming back.

Fantastic setting but The Talbot is priced like a good Evening Dining experience and doesn’t deliver. It never has in the past 5 years I’ve eaten there and sadly I don’t think it ever will. This was the last chance to see if it’s improved.

Training for staff and management actually trying the food would help greatly.
