The Talbot Country House Hotel, Malton

"A welcoming venue with friendly staff and great food"

We chose to have supper at The Talbot as an alternative to cooking and `I booked a table in the bar through the Design My Night booking link on their Facebook page. My husband fancied the Fish & Chip Friday at £18 with a drink included. On arrival there was a bit of a hunt for our reservation but we were soon seated and offered menus and drinks. We checked with our server that the inclusive drink with my husband's Fish & Chips could be a non-alcoholic beer then I chose Pie of the Day (they do paper pies) and a glass of wine. Drinks arrived promptly, including a jug of iced water and we didn't wait long for our food despite the bar being very busy at the start of the half term holiday. Both our meals were very nicely cooked and presented. We both enjoyed the food and had no room for pudding. When we came to settle the bill, it transpired that at this Coaching Inn, Fish & Chip Friday finishes at 6pm! It never did when the offer was on previously and it's only stated on the web site not on social media. Even our server hadn't realised this. To the Hotel's credit, our bill was adjusted on this occasion and we'll know for next time. Though it seems a strange condition that the other Coaching Inns don't apply to this offer!

We like the food and ambience at the Talbot and we will certainly be back soon. All credit to the staff who are charming. This is a family and dog-friendly venue.
