Website and online booking were well designed and straightforward, previous reviews gave us confidence to book, parking on site via the side entrance could be marked clearer (glad we checked via Google Earth prior to fathom out location), unassuming exterior gave way to beautifully decorated bar and restaurant area, with a lovely view out on to the bowling green, well established trees and outside seating. Decoration standard doesn't stretch to the behind the scenes areas, such as corridors and toilets - definitely worth investing in a spruce up. Staff were welcoming, polite and knowledgeable re: the menu. A prompt about the car parking exit code would have been useful, before us asking - make it part of the welcome. Ambience was peaceful and fellow guests quiet. Food and drink orders taken in good time and arrived quickly. Slow cooked Shepherds Pie was spot on, Seabass was tasty though small, as was the 10oz Gammon. Vegetable and chip portions were generous. Desserts were offered, but not required. Cash payment not accepted, which was disappointing. Better advertisement of card only would be useful for guests planning ahead.
