"birthday let down"

I decided to go to the Wynnstay because of the free birthday offer, I was 75 yesterday. I was aware that the offer required a main course to be bought by another person in the party, but the vegetarian options on the menu are extremely limited compared to similar restaurants. My wife ordered the aubergine parmigiana as she doesn't like burgers and there was nothing else. We were then told that the aubergine was not available, so she put together a starter and side dish instead, which cost the same as the main. When she ordered a dessert, that wasn't available either so she had to change that too. When we came to pay I was told that I couldn't get the discount because I wasn't paying for another item on the main course menu. The staff did what they could to give some sort of discount, but the system clearly wouldn't allow them any discretion. In the end the birthday offer was just a con.
