The Wynnstay Hotel, Oswestry

"Brilliant food but service has gone downhill"

We frequently visit the Winstay hotel for lunch or coffee when we are in Oswestry. There is nowhere like it to relax and eat and take a break. On our last visit we did notice a difference. All the waitresses bar one were very young, possibly working during school holidays. There did not seem to be anyone in charge. In previous visits there was a sort of maitre de who kept everyone on their toes and welcomed customers. He was not there this time and it showed. The food was good and came fairly quickly. However we waited for a long time for someone to clear our plates and ask if we wanted a dessert. They never came so we skipped dessert and left. If there are staffing problems they need to be addressed and if the hotel can't afford experienced people, it is a false economy which will reflect long term on their bottom line.
