The Kings Head Hotel, Richmond

"Great expectations, sadly let down."

Having read lots of positive reviews and choosing the upgrade package we were really looking forward to celebrating our wedding anniversary at The Kings Head. On arrival we received a friendly welcome and the keys to Room 101. The room was lovely and the bathroom is amazing! The bottle of Prosecco, which was part of the upgrade package, was very enjoyable as our pre-dinner drink.

Unfortunately things started going wrong when we arrived at the restaurant, which wasn't particularly busy. Starters were good and arrived quite quickly but then we had to wait around 50 minutes for our main course. Other guests were also waiting a similar time for their food - with one couple waiting an hour for their main course (they hadn't had starters). At not time were we given an explanation or apology for the delay. The lamb main course which my husband had was very good. My rump steak was poor, cooked badly and mostly inedible. When I raised this with our waitress she came back with a response from the chef who said "rump steak is a tougher cut and can be harder to chew". Although not a trained chef I am able to cook rump steak that is tender and easy to eat! Desserts were okay and did arrive arrive relatively quickly.

Due to our dining experience we are unlikely to return, which is a shame as the upgrade package is excellent value for money and we enjoyed exploring Richmond.
