"Mum’s 81st Birthday celebration meal."

We booked a table for 8 two days before having not used the restaurant previously.
The Staff were excellent, professional and clearly under an immense amount of strain. The meal was good but parts of it were unacceptable. A wedding reception was taking place upstairs and this clearly put lots of stress on both Staff and the Standard of the food.
The starters delivered were OK, but the “Crab Dish and Cauliflower fritters” were both over cooked and squashy.
The Main courses good but were let down by one fish fish under sized, and the other “gluten free” fish dish arriving late and looking very white and under cooked.
This was brought to the attention of the waitress and straight away the bill was altered from a large portion to a small portion.
After the main meal it took a long period to clear the table and I had to find a staff member to acquire a menu and order deserts. The waiter who had served us initially explained that she had been redeployed to the kitchen.
I ended up moving the dirty glasses to a spare table to the side.
In conclusion, whilst I understand that Hotels and Restaurants want full tables and the ability to deliver private functions. On this occasion it was very very obvious that both the Kitchen and Restaurant Staff were under staffed during our meal. We asked for a small desert with a birthday candle on it when we arrived this wasn’t provided, unfortunately the Chef said because of the wedding they were unable to oblige. Not the end of the world just a little disappointing.,
We live locally and will think carefully before we choose The Kings Head for a celebration in future.
I stress your Staff were good but clearly not enough of them on the ground to deliver “Excellent customer service and Value for Money”!!!
Mark and Family.
