"Great food, but disappointed in management decision regarding birthday offer."

We came for a meal out for a friend's 40th birthday. Noted the menu had, "free main... on your birthday". So I advised it was for a birthday. Because there were 9 of us, we had to pay a deposit per person and give our pre-orders for food. Nothing wrong with that, but when the birthday girl came to show her ID for her birthday meal, we were advised, it had to actually be her birthday on the day of the meal, (it was in 3 days from the day of our meal). There was nothing on the menu, stating it had to be the actual day. Only the waitress checked the ID, no proof was taken, so surely she should have final decision, but, she checked with management, and at the end of our meal, advised us, sadly, that the management had decided, we were not to get our free birthday meal. This is very disappointing, as everything else was very good. The food, in particular was exceptional. This took away the enjoyment of the evening, and I believe you missed out on something here, keeping your customers happy, for the sake of £30. We would have been most delighted to come back, but this decision has left us feeling quite deflated. There should probably be a bit more detail on the terms of the birthday meal. Not everyone can actually celebrate on their actual birthday. Perhaps 3 or 4 days either side of the day would be fair.
So, yes, we were somewhat disappointed in this decision.

Also, I think, there should be a clear divide between the hotel section and restaurant section, as for some reason, we had to pay at reception if wanted to pay by card....
