"Lovely Pub/Restaurant, But Food Disappointed."

Beautiful old building with a very attractive interior, all very promising on arrival, friendly and efficient staff, good choice of drinks, ales, wines, all reasonably priced so got off to a great start! Nice table with a view over garden.........but unfortunately, as with most restaurant reviews, it comes down to the FOOD! Several dishes were unavailable. Cheese fritters were bland, whitebait was OK. Biggest disappointment was the mains. Feather and fillet steak, a 'rolled' feather two bites big, and a small, grey, very average steak. Crab linguine, nice flavour but a lot of liquid and not much content, more of a 'soup'! Not bad enough to complain about and the staff were lovely, but overall an underwhelming experience. I don't like to leave bad reviews but I believe that this place aims to deliver more than just 'pub grub' and so we were disappointed. The beautifully char-grilled and generous sized rib -eye we had elsewhere the following evening in a regular 'pub' for similar price was much better received! Sorry!
