"Long wait and poor quality"

I’m really disappointed to write this review and I hope this was just a one off. We were seated for a festive afternoon tea, that consisted of cold sandwiches and cakes, and we waited for almost an hour for our food to arrive. The sandwiches were clearly rushed, haphazardly put together and squashed. The cakes were ok nothing to shout about. We had one good server out of the group, but still waited long periods before anyone would come to offer us a drink, and no one came to check on or reassure about the food wait. We had to approach staff about 3 times. We were told that the wait was due to the kitchen being a chef down but our food was cold non cooked, and there were hardly any other people in the restaurant. We were given without being asked, not offered, an extra afternoon tea for free to apologise but to be honest I would have preferred some money off the bill. We even got charged for the extra afternoon tea so it’s a good job I looked properly at the bill. Positives were the table was nicely decorated, lovely china tea service, they were accommodating around my son’s children’s afternoon tea, and the main server was very jolly.
