"13th Birthday Family Meal"

Email correspondence before arrival with Catherine was prompt and very helpful.
On arrival, the welcome we received was underwhelming to say the least! Not shown to the table - just pointed in the general direction - and no drinks order taken - I had to ask someone to take this. No happy birthday or offer to take the birthday cake I was carrying. Left to our own devices for 20 minutes until I approached a member of staff - restaurant not busy as it was early evening.
Food was mostly ok - pre-ordered as requested. However, starter not served until 30+ minutes after we’d arrived and desserts very slow to be served - I went to get the menu myself. Drinks ordered were not brought and again we instigated reordering rather than being asked if we required top ups.
Arrived at 6pm with 5 children the youngest of whom was 2 - left just before 9 despite preordering two courses and all children’s meals.
Highlight was young lady who did most of the serving and clearing. I did explain that the removal of the 10% service charge automatically added to our near £300 bill was in no way a reflection of our thoughts about her!
Overall a very disappointing and expensive birthday treat.
