The Swan Hotel, Stafford

"Great food, disappointing service"

We have eaten Sunday lunch at the Swan a few times before so were happy to book to come again. When we arrived we were greeted fairly quickly and shown to our table. Our server came back to ask for our drinks order and I asked for a wine list. This was produced but then she never came back to take our order. When she did we did not have to wait too long for the drinks to be produced. We then had to wait a long time to catch her attention to place our food order and we waited a very long time for the food to be delivered. No one came to check we were all right at any point during our meal and there were no apologies. We had to ask more than once to get the bill and in the end gave up and walked over to the till. There did not seem to be anyone with senior role in evidence until the very end when we went to pay. It could have been a case of being short staffed so we did not want to penalise the staff who were working by deducting the optional service charge, although it was tempting.
