The Golden Fleece Hotel, Thirsk

"Terrible !"

We (husband & myself) were so looking forward to our meal at the Golden Fleece on Easter Sunday. Alas, to say we were disappointed was an understatement. We arrived to find that the usual evening menu had been replaced by an Easter menu (no mention of this on your website when we reserved our table). We had always looked forward to having a couple of night stay with you but our dining experience has brought a change of heart.
There was a pleasant lady serving behind the bar who directed us to our dog friendly window seat. There was no atmosphere. A family of 5 had just taken seats on a table near us, they promptly got up and left having glanced at the Easter menu.
We both opted for fish and chips (skin on chips). Our meals arrived and we thought there was a competition on - find the fish in the batter. The chips were hard and luke warm.
We will not be making another visit to the Golden Fleece.
