The Royal Oak Hotel Eatery & Coffee House, Welshpool

"Bad start completely turned around by an excellent member of staff!"

We were early, so initially seated in the bar for drinks. The hotel was obviously very busy. We went to the restaurant area at 7.45pm as booked. The young lady showed us to our table. We immediately noticed the vacated table next to us had food everywhere. All over the carpet and table top. We realised that children had obviously been sat there.
Shortly afterwards a young gentleman who appeared to be in charge came and apologised for the mess. He asked if he could change us to another table in the main part of the restaurant but it was very noisy in there so we decided to stay where we were.
He asked the young lady to clean the area.
We explained that it was not his fault but the parents who had allowed their children to make such a mess and not cleared up after themselves. Some people are so disrespectful. We commented that we would never have allowed our child to behave in this way when he was young.
The young lady did try to clean the carpet but it was not easy mid service.
This took some time and eventually our order was taken around 8pm. Again the young man apologised and offered us a discount for all the inconvenience.
The food and service from this young gentleman throughout the rest of the evening was excellent!!
He had only been working at the establishment a few weeks he told us but we would like you to know he was an absolute credit to your hotel. A very professional member of staff and we have owned bars and restaurants so we know a great staff member when we see one.
He completely turned a bad experience into a lovely evening.
