"Anniversary meal"

The waiting staff were very pleasant on arrival.
We were taken to a lovely table although I did have to remove 2 feathers from my chair and plump my squashed cusion.
Ordered a bottle of wine (very expensive) and hummus to share as a starter. Hummus was delicious but the bread was tiny, doughy and hardly toasted.
Husband had Coachman chicken which was a bit over-cooked, but tasted fine.
I had the falafel salad and fries which was lovely. I'd asked for some tomato sauce with the fries and was supplied with 2 small pots.
Being vegan I was delighted to see a vegan desert of black forest gateaux. The 2nd pot of tomatoe sauce was not taken off our table until my desert arrived and husband asked for it to be taken away. The desert was nice but not worth the price.
When we received the bill we were surprised to see a surcharge had already been added and had to ask for it to be removed.
The toilets were dirty with tissue paper all over the floors and didn't look like they'd been cleaned for a while.
There were cobwebs around the ceiling of the window we sat by and the holdbacks looked like they could do with a clean.
It is a shame the 'Royal' part was missing from the cleanliness on our visit. It was not the more up-market experience we were looking forward to when celebrating our anniversary and we thought it was very expensive for our visit.
We will not be back in a hurry sadly.
